J OLIET ÂÂ Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County will host an Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar on June 4. Sunny Hill, in conjunction with the Illinois Pioneer Coalition, will host the seminar from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the countyÂowned facility, 421 Doris Ave. Becky Haldorson, Assistant Administrator at Sunny Hill and president of the Illinois Pioneer Coalition, said the seminar offers the first step for caregivers who wish to become Certified Dementia Practitioners. Tammy Virgili, Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Instructor through the National Council for Certified Dementia Practitioners, will be the presenter. More than 20 dementiaÂspecific topics, including diagnosis and prognosis, hoarding, aggressive behavior, nutrition, staff and family support, and end of life, will be covered. The course offers six continuing education hours for licensed nurses, nursing home administrators, social workers, physical therapists and physical therapy assistants by the Illinois Health Care Association. This seminar is required for those pursuing CDP certification and those who qualify through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Cost is $185 per person, payable at registration, and includes lunch. Illinois Pioneer Coalition members pay $150. Registration deadline is May 28. There is a $50 cancellation fee.
