Congratulations to the NCCDP's 2018 Educator of the Year: Jennifer Krupa, CDP®, CADDCT®

The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) would like to thank everyone for the many nominations we received for our Educator of the Year Award. Established in 2003, the NCCDP's Educator of the Year Awards Program honors Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainers (CADDCTs) for their achievements and hard work. The program was created to recognize individuals whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet the challenges associated with providing up-to-date and comprehensive dementia education. The nominees are all health care professionals who work in: nursing homes, long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, retirement communities, hospice agencies, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric facilities, adult daycare facilities/programs, government agencies, home care agencies, health care associations, and learning institutions.

Jennifer Krupa at Times SquareNCCDP's Educator of the Year Award is recognized as one of the nation's most prestigious awards in the field of dementia education. The winner of this award has the proven ability to exceed the state and federal regulations regarding dementia education. The educator is an inspirational individual who engages students and instills in them a passion for their continued growth in the field of patient care.

After much deliberation, we are happy to announce that Jennifer Krupa, ACC/EDC, AC-BC, CDP, CADDCT, is the NCCDP's 2018 Educator of the Year!

Krupa is the director of lifelong living at the Center for Lifelong Learning at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, OH. She has been with the organization for 18 years. "She is a natural as an educator," says former student Tammy Danilovic, activities director at the Normandy Care Center in Rocky River, OH. "Her students look up to her as a student and a mentor." Krupa's experience is vast. Lori Presser, president of the Northeast Ohio Association of Activity Professionals (NOAAP), tells us that Krupa consistently seeks out "educational programs, such as NCCDP, to provide to Ohio healthcare professionals." Presser notes that Krupa's instruction reaches a wide range of professionals including fire departments, police departments, senior living communities, hospitals, and other medical professionals."

Krupa was awarded the Educator of the Year award on April 23. Lynn Biot Gordon, Co-Founder, and Sandra Stimson, Co-Founder personally flew to Ohio to present the award to Krupa. Stimson stated, "It is very important to the NCCDP that the award is presented in person. We want the CADDCT award recipient to know we take this nationally recognized award seriously and that the winner is valued. This is the highlight of the year and its one I look forward to every year"

The presentation took place at The Normandy Senior Living Community located in Rocky River, Ohio. The awards ceremony and luncheon was organized as a complete surprise by Tammy Danilovic, activity director, and with the support of Matt Shula, her administrator. The amazing luncheon was prepared by Colleen Merella, dietary manager.
